Il test del papilloma virus è più efficace del pap test

Il test per il papillomavirus (Hpv) è in grado di predire la formazione di lesioni precancerose nella cervice nelle donne fino a 18 anni dopo l’analisi, molto di più rispetto al tradizionale pap test i cui risultati durano due anni. Lo afferma uno studio della Queen Mary University di Londra pubblicato dal Journal of Clinical Oncology.
“Il test dell’Hpv riesce a riconoscere più lesioni precancerose del Pap test – scrivono gli autori – e le donne che sono negative all’Hpv sono piu’ protette dai rischi di tumore della cervice”. Lo studio ha analizzato i dati di circa 20mila donne che hanno ricevuto i test alla clinica Kaiser Permanente di Portland, e secondo gli autori non suggerisce che un test deve rimpiazzare l’altro, ma conferma l’importanza di entrambe le strategie: “Lo scopo principale – spiegano – era vedere quanti casi extra di lesioni si potevano trovare con l’uso addizionale del test Hpv, e i risultati confermano le linee guida che suggeriscono che in caso di test Hpv negativo dopo i 30 anni i pap test possono essere fatti a distanza maggiore l’uno dall’altro”.
