Il sovrappeso aumenta il rischio di ritorno del tumore al seno

Le donne in sovrappeso o obese hanno una maggiore probabilità di ritorno del più comune cancro al seno, indipendentemente dai trattamenti ricevuti la prima volta. Lo afferma uno studio pubblicato sulla rivista ‘Cancer’, secondo cui il fenomeno è dovuto ai cambiamenti ormonali e all’infiammazione dovuti al grasso in eccesso.
“Abbiamo trovato che l’obesità alla diagnosi è associata con il 30 per cento di rischio maggiore di recidiva del tumore, e con un 50 per cento di probabilità aumentata di morte – ha spiegato Joseph Sparano del Montefiore Medical Center di New York – questo implica che trattamenti in grado di combattere i cambiamenti ormonali e l’infiammazione potrebbero ridurre i rischi”.
Lo studio è stato compiuto sui dati di tre sperimentazioni cliniche di trattamenti per il tumore al seno positivo ai recettori degli ormoni, cui corrispondono circa due terzi di tutti i tumori alla mammella diagnosticati. Tutte le pazienti erano in buono stato di salute, fatta eccezione per l’indice di massa corporea.
